Head of Supply Chain

The Head of Supply Chain will be responsible for setting and delivering a strategy to optimise the entire supply chain model for Connected Energy.

This role will be pivotal in leading procurement efforts, ensuring the sourcing of high-quality materials, components and contractors to support the manufacturing of our battery energy storage systems.

Role Overview

The Head of Supply Chain will be responsible for setting and delivering a strategy to optimise the entire supply chain model for Connected Energy.

This role will be pivotal in leading procurement efforts, ensuring the sourcing of high-quality materials, components and contractors to support the manufacturing of our battery energy storage systems. The Head of Supply Chain will be responsible for identifying and onboarding strategic supply chain partners, managing supplier contracts, fostering strong relationships with vendors, and negotiating favourable terms and aligning supply chain compliance with customer requirements.  The role will be key to contracting and coordinating materials and logistics, ensuring seamless flow through the supply chain to meet cost and carbon competitive production demands.

With an increasing business focus on international sales and geographically local solutions the role will require scalable replicable supply chain models to be developed and deployed in various international markets as the business expands.

The role will involve growing, leading, and nurturing a small team, fostering a collaborative and results-driven environment to achieve supply chain efficiency and growth for Connected Energy.

Main Activities / Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities

  • The implementation and progression of the business’ supply chain strategy, working with managers to establish the requirements in order for teams and the overall business to achieve its goal.
  • Oversee the procurement processes for sourcing and purchasing materials, components, and equipment necessary for manufacturing battery energy storage systems.
  • Implement and utilise the appropriate functionality within ERP/MRP systems.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, negotiating contracts, and ensuring timely delivery of materials whilst meeting quality requirements to budget.
  • Manage the logistics of the supply chain function, ensuring the timely and efficient movement of goods to meet defined timelines.
  • Ensure that our suppliers meet with the quality standards and compliance requirements of Connected Energy and our customers and carry out regular reviews to maintain our supply chain and product integrity.
  • Aim to achieve the best return on investment by implementing and evaluating cost and impact reduction initiatives, conducting analyses, and optimising procurement processes to maximise cost efficiency and minimise the carbon and raw material impact of the supply chain.
  • Create and maintain appropriate KPI’s associated with individual projects.
  • Ensure all supply chain processes are compliant with relevant regulations and standards in all supply chain operations.
  • Drive continuous improvement within the supply chain function, continuously seeking opportunities to enhance efficiencies.
  • Manage BESS development through prototyping to serial production.
  • Where possible, ensure that supply chain practices are sustainable.
  • Lead, inspire and develop members of the supply chain team.

 

Key Deliverables

  • Develop, deliver and adapt a supply chain strategy to meet with the evolving requirements of the business.
  • Identify key roles, responsibilities, skills sets and resources required to deliver the evolving supply chain demands and work with others in the business to establish effective processes and ways of working.
  • Put in place financial budgets for the supply chain team, including tracking and monitoring it’s use.
  • Identify and assess any potential supply chain risk to which Connected Energy is exposed and put contingency plans in place and establish how best to avoid or reduce the risks.
  • Report and liaise with client, suppliers and any other key stakeholders on supply chain progression and issues when required.
  • Develop and implement appropriate supplier quality and other compliance assurance documentation and processes.
  • Design, implement and monitor supplier selection processes and measurement criteria.
  • Support in the delivery of wider company projects, such as the introduction of a new ERP system.
  • Identify and implement cost-saving and cash management initiatives within supply chain, contributing to overall company cost efficiency.
  • Manage the supply chain budget effectively, ensuring resources are allocated appropriately to support financial objectives.
  • Provide monthly progress updates to the management team.

Person Specification

  • You will be educated to at least bachelor’s degree level or equivalent.
  • A relevant qualification in Supply Chain, Project Management, or Engineering, and relevant experience.
  • You will be a confident, commercially astute and considered leader with excellent communication skills and experience of leading, managing and developing high performing teams.
  • You will be able to think and plan strategically and have the ability to implement tactical and operational initiatives that align with and contribute to the delivery of the strategy.
  • You will have the experience and confidence to make well researched, considered and justified recommendations to the business in situations when the decision-making parameters are both clear and fixed, and when they are less clear and dynamic.
  • Demonstrable procurement experience (ideally in an OEM procurement capacity) is required, and you will have experience of dealing with and influencing international stakeholders, meeting their needs and expectations and solving problems that may arise. You will have a track record of setting high standards and delivering results.
  • Experience of manufacturing process and transfer from R&D to production environment.
  • A background in engineering or manufacturing.
  • Experience of supplier relationship management.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Lean principles and material supply methodologies.
  • At least basic technical knowledge of electrical design and development projects.
  • Experience with power systems components and suppliers.
  • Knowledge of end-to-end Supply Chain Management (SCM).
  • Knowledge of APQP processes.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Packages & SAP.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, data driven and detail oriented.
  • Financial acumen – familiar with budget planning and management.
  • Capable of identifying and mitigating potential risks within the supply chain function.
  • Proven negotiating skills in challenging global supply chain conditions.
  • Capable of fostering cross functional engagement and collaboration.
  • Self-learner, can-do attitude, and ability to think outside the box.

 

Desirable

  • Experience in the BESS industry either as an OEM or contract manufacturer.
  • Background working within the power, renewables or e-mobility sectors.
  • Familiar with SAP Business ByDesign.
  • MCIPS.
