Who we work with

Together, we can make a far greater impact – one small cell at a time.

We want to make the transition to net zero an easy one which is why we work closely with a whole range of partners who collectively share our vision. Our partnerships include technology providers, battery suppliers, our supply chain, academia, financial institutions and critically, our customers.

Commercial partners

We work with our commercial partners to develop a combined offering to our customers, pairing battery energy storage with complementary new technologies including EV charging, PV and wind turbines.

Mobilize

Mobilize

Since 2017, Connected Energy has partnered with Renault Mobilize – a brand of Renault Group – to use second life Renault electric vehicle batteries within our energy storage systems. The two companies have partnered to offer customers a solution to locate battery energy storage units at EV charging sites.

Equans

Equans

Equans supports businesses, communities and the public sector by mobilising its expertise to provide low-carbon energy solutions, offer cutting-edge technical and FM services and transformative regeneration across the UK & Ireland.

Connected Energy collaborate with Equans to provide battery energy storage to companies seeking to innovate and decarbonise their sites.

Swarco

Swarco

Electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure provider, SWARCO Smart Charging, and Connected Energy, have teamed up to help accelerate the roll out of EV charging across the UK and offer a decarbonised solution.

The two companies first started working together in 2017 when Connected Energy’s E-STOR system was installed alongside SWARCO’s charging technology at the UK’s very first charging hub in Dundee’s city centre. The collaboration provides the opportunity to offer a seamless integration of EV charging hardware with Connected Energy’s E-STOR system, to provide onsite energy storage.

Alpha 311

Alpha 311

Alpha 311 is Britain’s most innovative wind energy company. The company is working with Connected Energy to deploy turbines alongside battery storage solutions.

The collaboration will allow Alpha 311 customers to store excess energy generated by the wind turbines for later use. The combination of wind turbines and a battery storage solution will open up access to wind energy to even more people, businesses and councils across the UK.

Battery supply partners

We only source our batteries from established EV manufacturers and suppliers. By doing so, our systems benefit from the rigorous safety systems already in place to ensure they are the gold standard on the market.

Renault

Renault

Connected Energy has been working with the Renault Group since 2017 to prove the concept that second-life batteries are appropriate for energy storage applications. The batteries in our current E-STOR product were formerly used to power Renault Kangoo Z.E vehicles in France.

By working closely with Renault Group, our systems are a fundamental part of harnessing the circular economy to provide industrial-scale energy storage.

Volvo

Volvo

Volvo Energy invested in Connected Energy in 2022 with the aim to further accelerate Volvo Group’s battery business and sustainability opportunities.

“There is a great deal of untapped potential in the second-life use of batteries.” says Joachim Rosenberg, President of Volvo Energy, “Together with Connected Energy, we will minimize the environmental impact of the batteries that has powered Volvo Group applications. By repurposing the batteries, we obtain the full value from them – from a climate, environment and business perspective.”

The companies announced their ambition to jointly develop second-life battery energy storage systems in September 2023.

Caterpillar

Caterpillar

Connected Energy were proud to welcome Caterpillar as a strategic investor in 2022. The drive to repurpose EV batteries is a key part of Caterpillar Venture Capital’s strategic approach to the battery circular economy.

Jihad Salahuddin, Caterpillar Senior Investment Manager, said: “Connected Energy’s technology to repurpose EV batteries has demonstrated strong promise in terms of its current performance and upside capabilities.

“We are excited about this investment and see it as an important element of our strategic roadmap in the battery circular economy and our long-standing Enterprise commitment to sustainability.”

Forsee Power

Forsee Power

Forsee Power, the expert in smart battery systems for sustainable electromobility, and Connected Energy work in partnership to deploy and optimize the reuse of transport battery systems into stationary energy storage systems.

Connected Energy and Forsee Power signed a memorandum of understanding in November 2021 ‘to extend the use of transport battery systems into second life applications’.

Academic Partners

We are proud to work with a number of academic partners to access the latest thinking and cutting edge research and provide an opportunity for collaboratively facilitate the delivery of learning opportunities.

National Innovation Centre for Data (NICD)

National Innovation Centre for Data (NICD)

The National Innovation Centre for Data (NICD), located at The Catalyst in Newcastle Helix, works with businesses and organisations of all sizes to help them learn new data skills and become more productive. NICD have worked with Connected Energy for over five years, helping us to interrogate our data, develop valuable insights and build machine learning and AI into our software.

University of Suffolk

University of Suffolk

Our partnership with the  has allowed us to open access to our battery energy storage systems for teaching and research purposes. As part of The Hold project Connected Energy is working with the University of Suffolk on a knowledge exchange partnership which supports research and innovation activities across both organisations. The collaboration allows access to the battery storage system for teaching and research purposes, as well as projects to translate university science into practice.

Lancaster University

Lancaster University

Connected Energy has partnered with Lancaster University, who undertook a carbon impact assessment on our behalf.

They found that using second life batteries marks a break-through in carbon impact reduction because our second life battery based technology provides a positive carbon benefit of 450tCO2e for every 1MWh installed when compared with a first life lithium ion batteries.

Warwick Manufacturing Group

Warwick Manufacturing Group

Connected Energy worked closely with the Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG) who joined us on a £1.3 million project in conjunction with Jaguar Land Rover and Videre Global to establish the key components of a world leading second life battery value chain. The project is co-funded by an Innovate UK grant, awarded in October 2017.
